This is the only Filipino Restaurant in Big Island! I've been here few times. The first time I came here to eat, Mel recognized me (maybe from Facebook as I also have done some modeling in the past). I came back here in Kona for business and went there to eat again on my first day. I believe it was Mel's mom who served me. She was super nice! As I ordered my 3 choice plate, she came to my table and told me to try her lechon kawali. I didn't finish my food and I told her if I can order more rice to go and she didn't want to charge me for it. I told her I don't mind paying as I know she is running a business. She wouldn't take it so I put almost a total of $10 tip to her tip jar. I came back two days later and ordered more food to go. It was Mel and I'm guessing it was his brother who was there to served me. As usual, I gave them almost a $10 tip as well. The only suggestion I have is since I'm a lil health freak is they should cover the food...

This place is awesome. Probably the best place we ate at on the big island (in terms of places you go to on your own time and not meals at the ranch or luaus). This place is "turo-turo" style which mean point-point in Tagalog. Basically you point at what looks good if you aren't familiar with Filipino cuisine. My parents and I got a few different things. My dad got an order of chicharone and rice, and a bowl of the fish singang, while my mom got the Pinakbet. I on the other hand had the chicken and papaya (tinola) and the pork and veggies (filipino menudo). We all just went around and tried everyone's dish. Loved it :)

the chicharon / deep fried pork belly here is the best I've had in a while... was quite surprised... and the owner Trini was very hospitable and took good care of our needs... we ended up buying extra food for dinner/take out... highly recommended.. it also helps there's a Filipino market attached so you can load up on other goodies

Lunch here with family of 5 was only 45 bucks including drinks. Our Kalua pork with cabbage lunch plates were fantastic as was the chicken and pork adobo.

Ohana in Hawaii means family and Trinis has shown the warmth, hospitality, and friendliness of the true Hawaiians bestowed on a bunch of Filipino strangers from the mainland. This little food court style joint serves up the Filipino favorites with an Ilocano twist. (Ilocano is one of the dialects and regions of the Philippines, coming from Ilocos). On our first trip there we made friends with the owner of the place since a family we were also with were from Ilocos also. They ended up making plans to have lunch here the next day, with an assortment of foods that they were planning to prepare for us. The next day we came to lunch a little late ( a little before 2pm) because some of us played golf early that morning. To our surprise when we get back to Trinis they have a nice long table waiting for us and ready to accomodate a party of 11, as well as freshly prepared Filipino/Ilocano food. Some of which inluce: Papa-itan, Adobo, Pinakbet, whole fish Sinigang as well as freshly steamed taro and sweet potatoes for appetizers. I cant wait to come back here again.

If you are looking for authentic and yummy Filipino food, Trini's is the place. Come early though - best for breakfast or lunch. Often they close earlier than the posted 5pm.

This place is LEGIT. Came here with a friend and shared pork adobo, squid guisado, and pinacbet (stir-fried veggies). And the owner brought us out a serving of chicharrones with chili water so we could try that as well. The food was fresh and rich in flavor. The crispy-skinned chicharrones had awesome texture. The squid guisado was baby squid stuffed with what I believe was cassava (yuca). They were tender and sweet, very fresh and delicious. All around, one of my favorite meals in Hawaii so far. And very cheap! $9.50 for three entree selections and a big scoop of perfectly cooked short grain white rice. That was plenty of food for two people. It's in a food court, so I guess you could say the ambiance is not much but truthfully, it is bright and airy with fresh air flowing in from outside. Nice lunch spot!

Filipino food in a food court? I'll take it! This is a family owned restaurant where son is serving and mom is ringing up. We ordered diniguan- needs chili seeds to add spiciness but tasted good other wise, chichoron - ask for lechon sauce, squid- yummmmmyy ate the whole thing, tentacles too, pinalbeth- good too maybe some bagaoong would spice it up, and longonisa- $1 each and tasted fresh from the PI. We also got their halo halo- maybe more mix-ins would made it worth while. The food court has no AC just a big fan to circulate the air. Overall a great place to eat. It was recommended by a fellow local. :)

Cheap eats!!!! Great eats!!!! Took the suggestion of the chitcharone from a another yelper. Good suggestion!!! Also had the pork and peas. Again, home run!!! The only thing is lots of flies in eating area. Other than that. Great food, great value. Highly recommended.

Trini's is in a food court so atmosphere is NOT what I'm rating them on. We stopped in on a whim our first day in Hawaii for an early lunch so it was very quiet. We ordered the Pork & Cabbage, Pork & Peas and Fried Bango plates with some chicken on the side. The food from the line was ready immediately but the fish took a while since it was cooked to order. Everything was cooked nicely with good seasoning. White rice came on the side of each. My 8 & 10 yo kids enjoyed their dishes. Trini herself came out to ask how things were and even came back with fresh papaya halves for each of us on the house. Very generous and friendly family. I'll definitely stop in again later in our trip.

Absolutely the best food we have had in Hawaii. So yummy at a very low price. 8 dollars for two dishes with rice. Very friendly people. We really loved the home style cooking. My picky parents who are visiting from China gave this place a two thumbs up. They kept talking about the food for a few hours. The cook is the shop owner's mom. She came from the Philippines. Super friendly. Her food tastes like grandmother's cooking. We found the place by random chance when we went to the International Market Place in Kona. We were NOT expecting good food from a food court.
